Building Your Perfect Home Cinema

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Building your perfect home cinema can sometimes seem like a difficult task. However, if you employ careful planning, you can have a fantastic home cinema with a reasonably small investment.

The main centre piece of any home cinema is the TV. Therefore, the first thing that you need to do is decide what kind of TV you want to have. If you want to go all out you can opt for a digital high definition projector system. However, this will require a large investment. Therefore, if you want a great cinema experience with a low cost, getting a large high definition television is the way to go.

Lighting is one of the most important aspects of any home cinema system. It can add a lot to the cinema experience. Cinema lighting should be 10 percent brighter than the television of projector’s light output. Lights that sit on the ground and shoot their light up are perfect. In addition, there should be light in only 75 percent of the room.

Another factor that should come in to play when deciding on a home theatre system is flooring. If you have hardwood floors in your home, it will drastically reduce the quality of your sound system. Carpet is the best option because it will absorb the sound waves, instead of reflecting them. Carpet is excellent, especially if you have a 5.1 channel surround sound system! You will notice a huge difference with carpet versus hardwood floors or tile.

Another good thing to consider is what you will be housing your television in. Generally, a wooden cabinet is the best option. This allows you to display your belongings around the televisions, and, if you wish, hide the television behind a trap door. This is an especially good option, because it allows you to display things like books, records, and pictures, while still maintaining the functionality of your television.

In addition to all of these things, some people like to really bring the cinema experience home. Some people will add hot dog machines, or pop corn dispensers. In addition, some people like to put posters of vintage films around the room. This helps to further portray the feeling of a film cinema.

Home Theater Television Choices

The first thing that you have to decide is where you are going to put the new television. The lighting in the room can make a difference on what style you would get.

If the TV is going to be in a dark room, then you should consider a plasma television, they work better in darker rooms with less direct light. If you have a room, a room with more light and more natural sunlight then an LCD TV would work better because the picture looks better in lighted rooms. Of course there is the DLP version of televisions which work good in either lights, and usually has a lower price point than the other two.

You basically have three choices when it comes to televisions these days. Now, you can go old fashioned and not worry about HD, but it makes watching television almost unbearable. Many people are so addicted to HD television that they are known as television snobs. But the only way to really get full benefit of the HD aspect of your television is to order HD programming from your cable or satellite provider. If you look around for a deal, you can usually find HD add-on programming for just a few more dollars a month.

When you see it you will know there is a huge difference between the high def and the standard broadcasts. It is similar to the differences between watching the old VHS tapes and the newer DVD standard. But when you are hooking this stuff up it’s important to have the right cables, you have to use the HDMI cable for all your connections to have the optimal HD look. If you are a big movie fan then you may want to get HBO in HD as it’s fun to see the movies in this standard but it costs more money.

If you truly want to see movies as they were meant to be seen, then you will want to invest in a Blu-ray player. The Blu-ray discs provide movies in high def and is an unbelievable experience. The difference of viewing between this and and regular DVD is like the difference between HDTV and standard broadcasts, an incredible increase.
